EICR at Ruach City Church, Kilburn
An Electrical Installation Condition Report for Ruach City Church in Kilburn, a Grade II* listed former 1930s cinema where modern distribution sits alongside original 1930s switchgear.
The brief.
Ruach City Church meets in the former Gaumont State Cinema in Kilburn, a Grade II* listed building that opened in 1937 and is still home to its famous Wurlitzer organ. A building of this size and age needs regular electrical inspection to keep the congregation, staff and visitors safe, and to give the church the paperwork its insurers and fire risk assessment rely on. The church asked us to carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report across the installation.
What we did.
- Inspected and tested the installation in line with BS 7671, across the distribution boards and final circuits in use
- Worked carefully around a listed building, its decorative interiors and its busy schedule of services and events
- Identified and recorded the original 1930s equipment still in the plant rooms, including Brookhirst motor starters, the main rectifier switchgear and the old 240 volt DC switchroom
- Separated equipment still in service from redundant equipment, so the report gives a clear picture of what is live
- Recorded observations and recommendations in order of priority, with the urgent items explained in plain English
- Provided a full Electrical Installation Condition Report with schedules of test results for the church's records
The result.
The church now has an up to date condition report for the whole building, a clear list of what needs attention and when, and a better understanding of a remarkable mix of 1930s and modern electrical equipment.
