Electricians for schools and colleges.
LED lighting upgrades, testing, emergency lighting and data for schools across Kent and south east London. Planned around the timetable and done in the holidays when it needs to be.
Work that fits the school year.
Schools have the hardest deadlines of any client. Big jobs have to be finished inside the holidays, and anything done in term time has to work around lessons, exams and safeguarding. We plan school work backwards from the first day of term, so the building is ready when the pupils come back.
We have recently upgraded the lighting at St Columba's Catholic Boys' School in Bexleyheath, replacing the sports hall fluorescents with LED high bays and the design and technology workshops with LED battens, and at Bullers Wood School for Girls in Chislehurst, where we relit a Grade II* listed library.
What schools ask us for
- Fluorescent lighting replaced with LED
- Five-yearly fixed wire testing (EICR)
- Emergency lighting testing and upgrades
- Fire alarm work and testing
- Data points, Wi-Fi access points and comms cabinets
- Power for new classrooms, labs and workshops
What's included.
LED lighting upgrades
Sports halls, classrooms, workshops and corridors, with zoned switching and lower running costs.
EICRs and testing
Fixed wire testing to BS 7671, phased so no part of the school is left without power in term time.
Emergency lighting
Design, installation and testing to BS 5266, with logbooks kept up to date.
Fire alarms
Installation, extension and servicing, coordinated with your fire risk assessment.
Data and Wi-Fi
Structured cabling, access points and comms cabinets for classrooms and offices.
Holiday programmes
Large jobs scheduled into half terms and the summer, with a clear handover before term starts.

Safe, tidy and out of the way.
On school sites we follow your sign-in and safeguarding procedures, keep work areas closed off, and plan noisy or disruptive work for when classes are not in. Where we need access towers in a hall or workshop, we agree with the site team when and where they can stand.
Every job ends with testing, certification and a simple handover, so the site team and bursar know exactly what has been done and when it needs looking at again.
Accredited and approved.
NICEIC Approved Contractor (registration no. 609893000), SafeContractor approved, and ECS-carded electricians on every job.

Questions about school electrics.
Can you do the work in the school holidays?
Yes. Larger jobs such as lighting upgrades and rewires are planned for half terms and the summer holidays. We agree the programme with you well before the break so materials are on site on day one.
How often does a school need an EICR?
Usually every five years, with the recommended interval shown on the report. Emergency lighting and fire alarms need their own more frequent testing.
Is replacing fluorescent lighting with LED worth it in a school?
Usually, yes. LED fittings use far less energy, last much longer, and remove the need for replacement tubes, which are becoming harder to buy. Zoned switching lets staff light only the part of a hall in use.
Do you work in listed school buildings?
Yes. At Bullers Wood School for Girls we replaced the lighting in a Grade II* listed library with warm LED uplighting, working carefully around its original painted ceiling.
